Engels’ development of Marxism is comprehensive and systematic. He put forward the theory of the working class, which created a class basis for the transformation of socialism from utopia to science; he drafted the program and manifesto of the first world-wide proletarian party, which laid the political foundation for scientific socialism; he made and expounded his conclusion about Marx’s two great discoveries as cornerstones of scientific socialism, which provide an objective criterion for the transformation of socialism from utopia to science. He not only wrote the Socialism:Utopian and Scientifi, which Marx called “the introduction to scientific socialism”, but also expounded the connotation and principles of scientific socialism and the characteristics of the future society. Engels played an important role in the historical transformation of socialism from utopia to science.
